One of the men is Vice Admiral David L. Brewer, III, U.S. Navy
(Ret). He holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Prairie View A&M
University and a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies from
the Naval War College. Brewer formerly served as superintendent of the Los
Angeles Unified School District.

David Griffin’s name is also circulating. Griffin holds a
Bachelor of Science in Community Development from Penn State, a Master of
Business Administration from Lake Erie College, and a law degree from Cleveland
State University.
Griffin is president of David Griffin Consulting. He served
as Gov. Jeb Bush’s secretary of the Florida Lottery from 1999 to 2003 and was
the executive director of the Bush-Brogan second-term Transition Office in
2002. Bush appointed him to serve as a FAMU trustee in January 2005, but he resigned
from the position in March of that year after a new state law barred lobbyists from
serving on university boards of trustees.

None of the three men has an Ed.D. or Ph.D.
It is not clear at this point exactly how many members of
the FAMU Board of Trustees have signed on the support this list of potential
candidates. But none of the three men appear to have seven votes just yet. All of the trustees have not been informed about the names that are under consideration.

ReplyDeleteOne doesn't need to have a Ph.D. or Ed.D. to command the university. The university's command structure needs reform and what better way to do that than have people who have commanded large organizations and lives lead the university to prosperity. Also, reminder the law degree is a doctorate degree: J.D. or Doctor of Jurisprudence. In fact, the president of Columbia University in New York and countless other educational institutions are presided over by J.D.s
