FAMU to honor Colleges and Schools during Homecoming Gala

FAMU will honor its colleges and schools this year at the President’s Gala scheduled Friday, October 18, 2013, at 7 p.m. in the Lawson Center. This year’s theme is “Honoring Academic Excellence: Celebrating Our Colleges and Schools.”

“We have joined efforts with our student body this year to highlight the achievements of the university and we will honor our academic units during this gala,” said FAMU Interim President Larry Robinson. “One of the reasons why FAMU is a national university is because of the strong academic programs that are managed by seasoned administrators and taught by committed and talented of faculty.  It will be a night to remember as we also highlight former deans, graduates, faculty, staff and students of our colleges and schools.”

During the gala, the university will focus the spotlight on the achievements and programs of each of its 14 academic units. Sharon Saunders, executive assistant for communications at FAMU, is chair of the gala. Ann Kimbrough, dean of the School of Journalism and Graphic Communication, and Carl Goodman, professor of pharmacy, are serving as co-chairs of the gala.

“During this gala, we want to show our academic units how proud we are of their efforts and what they have been able to accomplishment from year to year,” said Saunders. “We are hope that our guests will walk away from the event with a heightened awareness of what each of our academic units have achieved.”

A concert featuring The Temptations with Dennis Edwards is scheduled immediately following the gala program as a part of the entertainment and is included in the $125 ticket price. Those only interested in attending the concert can gain entry to the Lawson Center beginning at 8:30 p.m. by purchasing a concert ticket for $30 at the ticket office or through Ticket Master.
