Yesterday, FAMU Vice President for Student Affairs William Hudson administered the oath of office to the university’s new top cop. Terence M. Calloway is now officially on the job as FAMU’s sixth chief of police and director of public safety.

“It’s an awesome feeling,” Calloway said in an interview with WCTV-6. “I want to do the best I can for the students, faculty, and staff of Florida A&M University.”

With more than 18 years of law enforcement experience, Calloway previously served Austin Peay State University as the chief of police and director of public safety before being appointed to his post at FAMU.

Prior to that, Calloway served as a patrol officer, DARE officer, school resource officer, vice officer and lieutenant. He earned his bachelor's degree in criminal justice from David N. Myers University and a master's degree in public administration from Tiffin University. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy Session 244, FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Seminar (LEEDS) and FBI Great Lakes Leadership Seminar (GLLS).
