Former FAMU Dean of Students Henry Kirby and Morris Hawkins, an accounting/budget coordinator for the student government association have been arrested and charged with stealing SGA funds.

According to court reports, between 2008 and 2011, Kirby and Hawkins diverted
student funds from SGA sponsored trips to their own personal use.

Hawkins was in charge of collecting those funds, from SGA sponsored trips usually to away FAMU football games.  Students would usually pay $90 for an all-inclusive trip that included hotel, game ticket, and transportation aboard the SGA owned “Rattler” buses. Three to four trips were taken each year.

Hawkins told investigators that he and Kirby would both "steal" between $2,000 and $3,000 from the travel-package fund at the end of each trip or "sometime prior to the end of the university semester." The rest would be deposited into an authorized university account or spent on SGA activities, according to court documents.

After each trip Hawkins would delete all documentation of cash deposits related to the trips at Kirby's request, according to court documents.

Authorities were able to recover the deleted documents, between 2010 and 2011, which showed the pair had collected at least $57,519. They were less successful in recovering records for 2008 and 2009.

Kirby has admitted to taking $2,000 on one occasion, but could not recall on others.
