The FAMU Department of Athletics honored Elysia Ortiz during Senior Day for women's tennis at the FAMU Tennis Complex. Head Coach Rochelle Goldthreate and Assistant Coach Alfred Koripamo presented Ortiz with a framed picture of her in action during a recent match. Her proud parents joined her on the court for the recognition ceremony.

Ortiz, who is majoring in pre-physical therapy, holds a 3.2 GPA. She is a native of Augusta, Ga., where she graduated from Augusta R. Johnson High School.

Earlier that Saturday, Ortiz led the Lady Rattlers to a 5-2 win over the visiting Lady Tigers of Savannah State. She won her singles match over Tiffany Williams (6-0, 6-0). After that, she helped the team achieve a doubles point when she and Symone Townsend defeated Kamelia Dimitrova and Sandy Lochu.
