FAMU awards $94,176 in scholarships to five Manatee County students

Five high school students received FAMU scholarships during a recruitment fair hosted by the Sarasota-Manatee Chapter of the FAMU National Alumni Association.

FAMU Vice-President for Student Affairs William Hudson awarded more than $94,176 to the young men and women in recognition of their academic achievement.

The recipients were: Rheya Jackson, Lakewood Ranch High School, Distinguished Scholars Award Full, $62,176 total over four years; De'Shaon Grant, Westcoast School, G.W. Gore $4,000 annual, $16,000 total; Samuel Hicks III, State College of Florida, $3,000.00 annual, $6,000 total; Charles Martin III, SCF, $3,000 annual, $6,000 total; Alexia Bartley, Booker High School, PSS $1,000 annual, $4,000 total.

Floyd Hill, president of the Sarasota-Manatee Chapter, joined Hudson for the scholarship presentation.
