During the past two football seasons, the Orange & Green gridiron squad posted strong numbers in its defensive stats. But the team’s Achilles heel was its constant difficulty getting the ball into the end zone.

New Head Coach Alex Wood says that will change in 2015. He is training his players to run an aggressive, fast-paced offense.

“We’re going.  It’s about pressing that line of scrimmage from drill work to when we hit that field. We press that line of scrimmage from offense, defense and special teams.  The goal is to go as fast as we can go to keep the defense on their heels and execute football plays,” Wood said.

Wood has a track record on the college and professional level of being able to move the ball up and down the field and score. As the interim football coach of the University at Buffalo last year, Wood’s offense averaged 400 yards per game.

On Wednesday, he began introducing the team to the new system during the team’s first spring practice. He said he likes what he is seeing on the field.

“I thought our coaches did a good job of instructing and teaching and our kids did a good job of listening to what we wanted to have happen in this setting, so it went pretty well,” Wood said.
