FAMU alumnus chosen as Florida’s featured Black History Month artist

Last week, Gov. Rick Scott announced that Arthur Dillard, who earned his bachelor’s degree from Florida A&M University, is Florida’s featured artist for Black History Month. 

Dillard is a watercolor painter whose studio is located in Bradenton, Fla. His work has been displayed at the Essence Music Festival in New Orleans, La., the Zora Neal Art Festival in Eatonville, Fla., the Heritage Art Festival in Atlanta, Ga., the International Art Festival, Houston, Tx., and Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach, Fla.  

The subjects of his art include: Mary McLeod Bethune, Martin Luther King, Jr., Thurgood Marshall, Muhammad Ali, Etta James, Josephine Baker, Ray Charles, Marvin Gaye, and Barack Obama.  

Dillard has also delivered lectures and led workshops on art at a number of colleges.
