FAMU volleyball team wins 5th straight, blanks A&T, 3-0

Newcomers Maria Yvette Garcia and Nicole Abreu combined for 24 kills Sunday afternoon as the FAMU Volleyball won their fifth straight, 3-0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-12) over North Carolina A&T in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Southern Division play at Moore Gymnasium.

Sunday's win was the fifth straigth match victory overall and left FAMU in sole possession of first place in the MEAC Southern Division at 5-0, completing the first half of their 2016 league schedule.

Garcia, a freshman from the Domnican Republic, finished the day with a match-high 14 kills, while Abreu, a freshman from Lima, Peru, added 10 kills, and a team-high 13 digs.

Junior setter Valeria Lopez led FAMU with 35 assists, while sophomore Valentina Carrasco added nine digs Sunday.
