Just days before the Board of Trustees is expected to take action to name Larry Robinson the 12th permanent president of Florida A&M University, Student Body President & University Trustee Justin Bruno has tendered his resignation effective immediately.

At 4:27 p.m., this afternoon, Bruno, a national achievement scholar, via email informed interim president Robinson and BOT Chair Kelvin Lawson of his decision to step down in a three-page letter.

Bruno first ran for SGA president in 2016 and garnered the most votes in the election.  He was denied an opportunity to serve for almost half a year after former President Elmira Magnum worked to install an interim SGA President, Jaylen Smith, who would be loyal to her.

Student Senate Pettiness
Bruno cited the level of pettiness in the FAMU Student Senate, which just last week made a motion to impeach him.  He wrote, " this is the fourth attempt to remove me from office in as many years, and the action is similar to that which was brought against several of my predecessors.  And while will all the previous attempts have have failed --just as their most recent salvo against me would have as well (if not for my resignation) -- it does beg the question: who in their right mind would want to continue to endure such nonsense?"

"Sadly, this (petty) nonsense is the new normal," Bruno continued.

Bruno called upon FAMU student leaders to "stop the personal attacks, threats against principles and institution, flagrant disregard for the truth and decent, the reckless provocations", and pettiness for personal gains.
