Yesterday, the Florida Board of Governors (BOG) unanimously voted to confirm Larry Robinson, Ph.D., as the 12th permanent president of Florida A&M University (FAMU).

On November 30, 2017, the FAMU Board of Trustees unanimously selected Robinson to serve as the 12th president of the university.

During the confirmation process, the BOG cited Robinson as an “outstanding scholar and researcher” and reviewed his contributions to the University. His record of service to the Rattler community includes serving as provost and vice president of Academic Affairs from 2003 to 2005; serving as chief operating officer in 2007, as interim president from July 2012 to March 2014, and most recently serving as interim president beginning September 15, 2016.

“It is an honor and a privilege to lead this great institution,” said Robinson, while sharing his vision and priorities with the BOG. “My commitment as the 12th president is to work wholeheartedly to make FAMU an institution that is an even stronger ‘First Choice’ for students, a priority destination for agencies that invest in research, a model of meaningful engagement, and a favored institution committed to transparency and accountability. ”

Robinson outlined the following areas of focus as president of FAMU:

· Increasing student success, graduation rates, and improving licensure pass rates
· Enhancing the student experience
· Increasing our recruitment efforts of transfer students
· Enhancing and improving our housing facilities
· Increasing accountability
· Stabilizing the University
· Increasing financial support
· Improving the efficiency and effectiveness of our services (with a focus on customer service)
· Increasing research funding

In Board of Trustees Chair Kelvin Lawson’s statement to the BOG requesting Robinson’s confirmation, he stated: “Dr. Robinson has consistently demonstrated his commitment to serve this University and its constituents. His outstanding scholarship, academic career, research accomplishments and public service in the state and national arena are distinguished.”
