FAMU Associate Provost for Graduate Education David  H. Jackson, Jr. and FAMU-FSU Associate Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering Shonda Bernadin are among the university leaders that hosted the National GEM Consortium Grad Lab on April 13-14.

The Grad Lab is supported by the National Science Foundation and focuses on identifying top undergraduate talent in order to further diversify the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields. The event was held at the Aeropropulsion, Mechatronics and Energy Center located on the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering campus.

The Grad Lab is an engaging symposium where science and engineering undergraduates receive full information on the importance of graduate school and what is needed to successfully gain admittance with financial support.  Speakers ranged from current FAMU graduate students to University faculty and senior industry executives.

Grad Lab encourages young people to consider graduate engineering or science education and to apply for the prestigious GEM Fellowship.  Focusing on the global importance of research and innovation, life-long career benefits, and real-world role models, the symposium was designed to help each student envision his or her future as a technology leader and gain entry to a graduate STEM program.
