Taylor Rosier carded 6 hits in the weekend series
The Florida A&M Lady Rattlers (13-20, 6-0 MEAC) took both games of a doubleheader to sweep the South Carolina State Lady Bulldogs (1-17, 1-5 MEAC) in the home opening MEAC series at the Lady Rattler Softball Complex.

In the first game of the doubleheader, Taylor Rosier went two-for-four to lead FAMU from the plate.  The junior third baseman also scored a run and was responsible for an RBI.  Toni Anderson, Edrienne Williams and Yuri Hampton each reached base safely to round out the five hits for FAMU.  Jamesia Stoudemire scored two runs with Rosier and Williams scored the other two.

FAMU Assistant Coach Constance Orr felt the series win was much-needed after the difficult pre-conference schedule the Lady Rattlers played.

“It’s very important to know that going into these next series’ we are going to have.  This will give us a little confidence booster going into the next series,” Orr said.

FAMU’s Veronica Burse started the game, going nine innings for the orange and green.  She gave up three runs on five hits and three walks.  Kyaira Brown finished off the Bulldogs going the final extra frame.  In that frame she allowed no runs, hits or walks and got one strikeout.

In the second game of the doubleheader, FAMU put the Bulldogs away in six and one half innings. Tyra Brown helped the cause with two hits on the day.  She would be the only multi-hit player in the contest.  Rosier, Stoudemire, pitcher Kyaira Brown, and Alexis Day all carded hits in the win.

Brown would go the entire way, allowing four runs on six hits.  Shana Abram led the Bulldogs in game two with two hits.  Four other Bulldogs collected a hit each

Senior first baseman Anderson felt good about the Lady Rattlers’ resilience.

“I am very excited that we were able to get (hits) when we needed them.  It feels really great to get a sweep on our first home series,” she said.

Rosier, who carded six hits on the weekend, feels the Rattlers need to ride the momentum.

“ I love how we got the sweep.  We came out on a good start and kept the ball rolling and hopefully we can continue to do that throughout the year,” Rosier said.
