FAMU broadcast students take top honors at Associated Press Awards

FAMU journalism students won two first place and two second place awards at the Florida Associated Press Broadcasters Association 2018 Awards ceremony in Orlando, FL, earlier this month. 

FAMU won awards for:
  • First Place: Best Digital/Website Content: Monica Myrick, FAMU-TV, Tallahassee, “Walk With Me.”
  • First Place: Best Hard News Feature Short Format: Morgan Martin, FAMU-TV, Tallahassee, “Florida’s Red Tide.” 
  • Second Place: Best Light Feature: Short Format: Cierra Richardson, FAMU-TV, Tallahassee, “Farm Share Hurricane Michael.” 
  • Second Place: Best Light Feature: Long Format: Giselle Thomasand Kiah Lewis, FAMU-TV, Tallahassee, “Loneliness; the Solution.” 
“The awards this year really show the great diversity of journalistic skills and storytelling among our students” said SJGC Professor Kenneth Jones.

Seven college radio and television stations submitted 50 entries in the contest, that featured news and sports stories from 2018. FAMU students competed against the University of Florida, University of Central Florida, Florida State University and the University of Miami, among others.
