FAMU nursing grads licensure exam scores show slight improvement

FAMU nursing students sitting for the National Council Licensure Examination for the first time, this year, saw improvement in their test scores on the March exam with a pass rate of 64.71%.  For the June exam FAMU’s score improved to an 83.33% pass rate.

This scores were up overall from a pass rate of 62 percent in 2021.

So far this year, FAMU’s pass rate average is 74.29%, 11.71% below the national average. 
The Florida Board of Nursing requires programs to meet the national average first-time pass rate of about 86 percent. 
 
The School of Nursing was been placed on a two-year probation by the state's nursing board because in June 2021 because of its low first-time passing rates.  The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) Board of Commissioners granted the FAMU baccalaureate nursing program continued accreditation for good cause for two years.  
 
The FAMU baccalaureate nursing program underwent a reevaluation in April 2022 to determine if probation will continue for the second year.  That report is due next month.
 
This year, eight nursing programs in the State University System of Florida experienced a decline in its annual scores.  According to a reportnearly a third of Florida nursing school graduates flunked the licensing exam
