Southern back on football schedule
Florida A&M and Southern plan to renew their rivalry in football starting in 2007. FAMU athletic director Nelson Townsend confirmed the news Saturday at the Orange and Green game.
Townsend said the schools have agreed to a 10-year home-and-home contract starting with FAMU traveling to Southern in 2007.
Townsend said he was very interested in adding other schools from the SWAC to future FAMU schedules.
FAMU and Southern played each other every year from 1946 to 2001. Next to homecoming, Southern was usually the most attended home game of the season for FAMU, and the games were usually highly competitive.
