The Florida Board of Governors, Access and Diversity Taskforce blamed FAMU for a dip in the state university system's (SUS) African American enrollment.
The taskforce attributed the dip in SUS black enrollment to an 807-student drop at Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, which (the Orlando Sentinel said) has been plagued with budget and personnel issues. In the rest of the university system, black enrollment rose.
Between 1999 and 2005, the number of black students enrolled in Florida universities increased by 25 percent. Hispanic enrollment rose by 51 percent during the same years.
However, while the proportion of Hispanics on campus increased from nearly 15 percent to 17.4 percent during that time, the proportion of black students dropped slightly -- from 15.5 percent to 15.1 percent.
To make Florida's University's more diverse, the taskforce is recommending more financial aid and better recruiting.

Sounds like FAMU needs to fire up that student recruitment program again.
