Castell offers Faculty half percent bonus if they forego union representation

Rattler Nation has learned that our interim president has offered faculty and staff and half percent raise if they forego union representation. Read: Give up your (union negotiated) job protections and I'll give you a .5% one time bonus.

If this isn't some Wal-mart, union busting tactic we don't know what is.

Under Mrs. Bryant's proposal FAMU faculty would get 90 day notice as opposed to the 1 year notice currently required under the union contract. Other proposed changes to employee rights include, notice of discipline by FAMU can be sent by US Mail or delivered in person to the employee as oppose to the delivery via certified mail, return receipt as currently required.

Mrs. Bryant is asking FAMU faculty to accept serious reductions in job security & to accept a weakening of their tenure.

  2. The thing that pisses me off the most is that CVB & Co. is that they are so #@$! disrespectful of people, believing that they can purchase favors. Don't they already know that we've already been bought & paid for?? This is 2006, for God's sake. Are we simply to accept whatever's offered, no questions asked? Are we all just idiots? Are we simply morons? Now, who's ging to forego union representation for a so-called "bonus"? Surely, the woman doesn't expect anyone to give in to her mad proposal. But knowing how arrogant CVB is, she probably thinks so. Now, how much more time do we all have to tolerate such abusive behavior from one of our own? When's the next train running North?

  3. God Bless Castell said...
Castell is doing what she has been ordained to do to rid the school of its remaining wicked ways. Leadership requires making the tough decisions, and she is doing it. I am glad that she is doing what she has been called to do without worrying about the naysayers.

As the St. Pete Times article says, she has done a respectable job. She will continue to do so with God's grace and mercy.

  4. it's stuff like this (though on a higher level) that caused worker unions to be formed in the first place. Worker rights are not just an issue for Major League Baseball and Illegal aliens, it goes for everybody.

"You make $100K a year, here take this $500 raise and allow me to erode workers rights for which you have negotiated." Any faculty that take this deal SHOULD be fired within 90 days by regular USPS.

  6. Question??????

    How has the faculty responded?

    ReplyDelete
  7. The faculty may respond tomorrow...when they sit on their hands in response to the president's plea to contribute to the FAMU Foundation.

By the way, has anybody explained why the foundation's assets have been DECREASING since Castell fired Love Collins? Where'd THAT money go?

One last point, 0.5% would have made Dr. B's bonus a little over a grand, instead of the big bucks the trustees gave her. And all she had to do was tell them a fairy tale.

  8. Where is the faculty on this issue? Silent in public while sniping away on Rattler Nation. PAthetic.

  9. It truly is a damn shame!

All of those educated, intelligent, articulate and TENURED Negros at FAMU are a group of COWARDS!

With the exception of just a few people who had the guts to ask questions (and ask for or demand a response), the vast majority sat silenty (looking stupid) and waited on SOMEONE ELSE to ask the questions they really wanted to know the answer to.

Why are you people so afraid? The last time I checked slavery was abolished in 1863 (although, some black folk didn't get the word until 1865).

It's 2006 - Haven't you heard yet that you do have many rights and privilages that you didn't have during slavery.

99% of the employees at FAMU are afraid of losing their jobs. But if you are such a coward that you would "switch out" rather than fight for what you believe in, I guess you slept through the civil rights movement and you know absoloutely nothing about the struggle.

Those of you who are afraid to stand up and speak up:

Don't ever talk to your students (or your children/grandchildren) about the significance of the Bus Boycott, the sit-ins, the protests, Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King, Jr., or Nelson Mandela.

Because you know absolutely nothing about the kind of courage those individuals exihibited, and that makes you a god #*@* phony who is guilty of the worst kind of of hypocrisy.

You all should be ashamed to look at your selves in the mirror!

Grow a backbone or a set of balls!!!
