Athletic Facilities on the Mend

Two Florida A&M sports venues are getting facelifts of sorts as the 2006-07 school year draws closer...

•Jake Gaither Gymnasium, completed in 1963, is having a climate control system installed to regulate the temperature and humidity in the facility.

Gaither, which is home to FAMU's volleyball and men's and women's basketball teams, along with campus intramurals and other university activities, has been without a functional climate control (that's heating and air conditioning for us regular folks) system for several years.

•The Galimore-Powell Fieldhouse, home of Rattler Football since its' completion in 1983, is expanding its' weight room facilities in time for the fall semester.

The fieldhouse's western side is being expanded 16 feet toward the parking lot and the expanded area will flank the entire west side, for additional strength and conditioning equipment and workout space.
