If any other Florida University (FAU for example) were having the problems that FAMU was having, it would be shut down tomorrow. Can you imagine the political hell there would be to pay if FAM were shut down? The rioting in the streets? The cries of racism? At some point, the elephant in the room has to be talked about. FAM needs to shape up or shut down. Its not a black thing, its a wasting the taxpayers money thing. Maybe the solution is to take FAM private.
Does anyone know any background about Challis Lowe? How did she get in good with Jeb and get on FAMU's BOT in the first place? Why is she so loyal to James Corbin and Castell Bryant?
I've been in the FAMU family for a while and I've never seen Lowe around until she was appointed to FAMU's BOT in 2003. What's her story?
It's one thing to request letters of resignation, but another thing to actually get them.
There needs to be some bite with the governor's bark on this issue. If these trustees do not resign, then he needs to promise investigations into criminal neglect of duty (failing to take action after discovering the administration violated employee due process rights, etc.)
Or else, there will be few changes on the BOT until 2008 when Bill Jennings and Al Cardenas' terms come up. By then, the new president will have already been selected.
Christ will DEFINITELY request letters of resignation. He wants to build his own education legacy beginning with a FAMU turnaround to its days of glory.
As with any administration, letters or resignation are tendered. Political appointees do not have a choice in this matter. Refusal to submit said letter is a sure way to seal your fate most expeditiously.
Changes will be made, but only if the right governor is selected.
Each day that passes cements in my mind that Crist may not be the best choice in terms of what's best for FAMU. Before this election is over, CRIST would have sold his soul to secure the votes of several special interest groups. FAMU is low priority for these interset groups, and seen more like a cyst/sore that needs to be removed permanently by these groups.
But when trustees are appointed for terms that don't end until 2010 or 2011, there must be some way to pressure them into resigning. The new governor cannot just come in and arbitrarily force them to leave the BOT after they have been confirmed by the Senate.
That's why I continue to say that FAMUans must continue to openly protest against bad trustees like Lowe, Allen, and Jennings and leak information that the new governor can use to launch criminal investigations into FAMU BOT.
I still am amazed when I hear FAMUans talking as though ANYTHING good can come to us from Charlie Crist. This is a man who won the primary vowing to continue and expand on Bush's legacy!!!
WAKE UP!!!
The Republican party has controlled everything at the state and national level and all we have to show for it is exorbitant federal deficits, an enormous and growing gap between the rich and the poor in Florida as well as the nation, thousands of dead and maimed soldiers (a disproportionate number of whom are black, poor, and poorly educated), an educational bureaucracy seemingly designed to make education in Florida MORE political, LESS equitable and accessible, AND less effective for those at or near the bottom who need it most!
We definitely need new Trustees, but to get the right ones, we need the right governor, and it is definitely not Charlie Crist!!
Launch a criminal investigation??? These are the people who covered up the beating death of a Florida child for which there have STILL been no charges, and the pervertions of a legislator who also handled child protection issues!!! G I V E M E A B R E A K !!! We have to clean house at the Governor's mansion FIRST. Otherwise, no good will happen in OUR house!
Republican: Blacks need to get over themselves, get out there and build something worthwhile that will benefit society. Blacks are smart and capable and do not need the yoke of government to slow them down as they build a better society. I have been in control of congress for 11 years and look at all the progress we have made! By the way Democrats kill babies.
Democrat: Blacks are victims and helpless and need a handout from the government because they are not smart enough or capable enough to do anything on their own. We will help you and give you money as long as we can control you and can count on your vote. The yoke of government is light. Trust me. I was in control of congress for 40 years and look and all of the progress we made! By the way Republicans kill babies.
I think that poster was just pointing out the differences between republican thought and democratic thought.
If you have a splinter in your foot...
The republican doesn't care about your problems and will leave you alone to solve them yourself, partially because he thinks that most people are capable of doing so. He really doesnt care about your splinter. If you press him, he MAY offer you a pair of tweezers (moderate) or he may direct you to the nearest CVS so you can purchase your own $*# tweezers. (conservative)
The democrat cares deeply about your splinter, but does not want to solve the problem, because if the splinter ever went away, you would no longer need the democrat. He is offering pain relief rather than offering to remove the splinter. He denies that you have a splinter and bans tweezers. Oh yeah.. and we will raise taxes and make the rich republicans pay for your pain medication - becaues he cares so deeply about you.
The libertarian punches you in the nose for whinning about your splinter and tells you that the government is not your mommy and under no circumstance should help you with that splinter.
FACT: Foley, the senator "near-pedophile" (it was just email), resigned in disgrace and is shunned by his party. The president "near-pedophile" (she was 20) refused to resign and is the HERO of his party. "Family values" do not make heros out of sexual predators (like Clinton, Kennedy, Studds and possibly Frank), they kick them out of the street.
If you want to, go ahead and call sexual infidelity a draw. I personally don't see it that way. But explain away the deficit we have all been saddled with so that the very rich few can get even richer at our expense. And ask yourself whether FAMU is better off now than it was 8 years ago. And ask yourself how all Bush's appointees have helped FAMU. And explain what all the death and suffering in the Middle East has done to make the world a better or safer place. I'll take the gains under Clinton and Chiles over the recent Republican designed past any day!

When you have to go back 150 years to find 17 reasons to like a Republican, you make my point better than I ever could! WAKE UP! The Republican party is "Uncle Tom'n" you, bro!
"Uncle Tom'n".... lol... why don't you just be a litte more clear in your extreme bigotry and racism. You might as well just go ahead and use the word we all love.
It nothing more than racism and bigotry in the extreme when you persecute a brother for not bowing down and licking the boot of the democratic masta's.
You are not FOR blacks, you are FOR an ideology. If a brother or sister doesn't share your liberal ideology then you dont even consider them to be black anymore. Case in point: How many blacks today are celebrating the fact that the most powerful woman in the WORLD just happens to be a BLACK woman?! I am sure you would say she is just "uncle tom'n" because you cant STAND the fact that she chose a different path or that she happens to be (OMYGOD) a "conservative". She is a very talented and accomplished PERSON (who happens to be female and happens to have dark brown skin). If you were FOR blacks, you would see this as the very important civil rights milestone that it is. Whites are talking about running her as PRESIDENT against Hillary. Fourty years ago, did you EVER in your wildest imagination believe that a black girl from Alabama would be the topic of dinner conversation among white Americans as a possible presidential condenter? This country has come a long way. People of all ideologies races should be celebrating.
Its not about race anymore (as much), the cultural war today is (almost) a colorless ideology - as it should be. That was his dream - to be judged by the content of our character, our ideas, not our skin. And Mr or Mrs "uncle tom'n" YOUR ideas STINK.
Hmmm...Barak Obama is "a very talented and accomplished PERSON" who happens to be black. So is Florida Lieutenant Governor candidate Daryl Jones. If the poster above thinks THEY are bowing down and licking the boot of the democratic masta's," we have a more serious education problem in Florida than anyone thought.
Like Hell. If WE SAY that they go, they must GO!
ReplyDeleteReally. I bet the next governor will request letters of resignation from all BOT. Afterall, they serve at the pleasure of the governor.
ReplyDeleteLook for FAMU's board to have a new face if the right guy is elected.
The governor can request BOT members to resign, but most of the bad FAMU trustees (Lowe, Allen, Jennings) probably will not go without a fight.
ReplyDeleteIt's going to take some serious political pressure to force these people to vacate their seats.

ReplyDeleteFact: The deficit has never been higher. Black, white, or green, we have financed our present by mortgaging the lives of our children.
Fact: A Republican trying to seduce young pages is no more supporting family values than Clinton's infidelity.
Fact: FAMU and all of its constituents were better off under Democratic governors and the BOR.
Fact: The majority of Bush's appointees to the original BOG would not have qualified for the lowest tenure-track position at FAMU.
