Interim President Castell Bryant issued the following statement yesterday afternoon outlining the intial steps in the transfer of power from her interim administration to the 10th president.
Yeah, but before she goes she wants to leave us in limbo and NOT do anything more.
"What would you like for her to do before she leaves?"
Isn't that what you wanted her to do all along as the INTERIM President ... Nothing but "Baby Sit" incompetence?
You all complained about her when she did something ... So quit trying to complain NOW - Now that she has finally agreed to do nothing more than man the fort until he arrives already!
WE didn't ask for her to start with. She NEVER DID ANYTHING worth risking the University over. This was a paycheck for her. And probably WAS for you too. If she really wanted to "transition", she would have had all of those things aligned to possibly aid the search committee far sooner than now. I'd argue that the "transition" should have begun simultaneously with the search. Effectively baarring long-term decisions being made definitively at once. Arguably, NEVER to have had that responsibility at all. But her game is intimidation, which is not triumphant without integrity and substance. Intimidation is most productive as an effect rather than the cause. She DEFINITELY inflicted the University with intimidation which produced a few impressions of her and her "merit" as Our Leader-Interim. Which is HOW she and her staffers (Trojan horse et al) were able to misguide an abrasive minority. BTW, these TrusTease gotta GO! I'd eliminate four off jump! You know who you are.
The damage has been done. The die is cast. Her legacy will not be seen as one of FAMU's brightest times. Totally the opposite. Her legacy, and this whole James Corbin era, will be one of FAMU's darkest hours.

She WOULDN'T have been there at all ... If all of you who were so gung ho about ousting Gainous so fast had actually taken the time - and had the common sense - to actually have a REPLACEMENT for him BEFORE simply getting rid of him.
She only got there because NOBODY - Not even the person who just got elected to head it - wanted ANY part of all the nonsense & BS you all were spewing about two years ago.
As for "risking the School" ... History is eventually going to show one day that she actually SAVED the School ... From all of YOU ackjasses, that went "shufflin' on up to the Gov'na" and so were willing to actually let the State come in and just have full reign over your School's records. Had she NOT stepped in and prevented the State from doing what they've been wanting to do for decades, your School sure WOULD have been at risk ... "For Possible CLOSURE!"
Truth be told, she should have gotten rid of a LOT more incomp MF's up there than she did - and she actually tried to keep the State away from coming in there and taking over long enough for some of them to prove they actually deserved to remain employed up there, and when some of them proved they COULDN'T, had to spend counteless thousands of unnecessary dollars in "consultants" and whatnot just to try to make sense out of what some of those up there were/are being paid to do - so instead of complaining about what she did, some of you up there better be glad for what she DIDN'T do to a lot of you up there.
When "JA Rule" gets in there, I betcha one Thang ... He's not about to hear ANY excuses about Peoplesoft and/or "Institutional Knowledge" being the reason why any of the simple things are not what & where they should be up there ... So if you think SHE was a mofo to deal with, you just watch what happens to those who don't have their shtuff together up there from now on!!
On the one hand, she saved the institution's financial division from being taken over by the state.
On the other hand, she inflicted financial chaos by permitting enrollment to plummet, jeopardizing FAMU's NSF funding, neglecting FAMU's fundraising division, and racking up a $10M deficit. Futher, she's put FAMU's SACS and Pharmacy accreditation in danger.
Bryant was a good spokesperson for FAMU's independence. However she was dangerously incompetent in the areas of financial management, revenue-generation, and accreditation.
Maybe the enrollment needed to plummet a bit. Plenty students are there just because they graduated high school. They are underprepared and tax the professors who must spend an over-abundance of time simply trying to remediate poorly prepared students. Many parents know that their children are not college material but insist that they come to college anyway. Much money, time, energy and effort are spent on students who are underprepared and simply don't wish to be there in the first place but whose parents want to say that their child is "in college." I know, because I teach a boatload of students who would fare better in a community college setting first or engaged in a vocational program, or working first, then enrolling in college to see if they are indeed ready to engage collegiate-level work. Yes, before you all attack me, I am in favor of the "excellence with caring" motto established during the Humphries era, but sometimes you must call a spade exactly what it is: a spade.
I went by the Law School this past Saturday on my way to see the Knicks vs. Magic game, and although it looks quite impressive from the highway, the lighting to show the wording of it being the FAMU Law School was pitiful.
The ONLY reason I know it's the FAMU Law School is because I know. Anyone else driving by wouldn't be able to see a thing but two POORLY illuminated spotlights.
Just something for the New Prez to think about next time he visits there.

Yeah I would like to hear more about the law school facilities. How does the law school actually look?
I am a proud alumnus of FAMU not Florida State...which is exactly where FAMU was headed. You can't please everybody. And so...I am just waiting to hear what is wrong with the new president. It seems that everyone was happier when people were stealing the financial aid money, paying themselves a little extra, and whatever else was going down. Integrity..yeah, FAMU is rich with it.
This must have been a bitter pill for Castell to swallow.
ReplyDeleteWhat "Bitter Pill"? ...
ReplyDeleteShe probably can't wait to get from under all this - and back to watching her westerns - as much as you all are in seeing her leave.
"Quit B****in' Already!"
Yeah, but before she goes she wants to leave us in limbo and NOT do anything more.
ReplyDelete^^^^^^^ @ 4:10 p.m.
ReplyDeleteThe one you take everyday. You sound like someone who is very unhappy. Or could it be that you are related to ole CastHell?

"Let The Games Begin!"
Castell: Damn if she does. Damn if she doesn't.
ReplyDeletewhat damage has she done to the law school?
ReplyDeleteYou can stop ranting and raving Liz. The show WILL go on without Cast-Hell.....get over it!!!
ReplyDeleteBryant's legacy has two hands.
ReplyDeleteOn the one hand, she saved the institution's financial division from being taken over by the state.
