Please return my phone call!!
What really happened to those documents? You can tell me, since you won't tell the auditor. I ain't gonna tell nobody, I promise.
Janitors not at fault
We spoke to the janitorial staff, they said there is no way they would throw away boxes that wasn't clearly marked trash, and we are inclined to believe they are correct.
Auditor Sauerbeck: a test of receipts not deposited timely; athletic report $1.8M sales and the documentation inadvertently discarded
Sen. Domino:the Athletic could this allow someone to sale tickets for $10 and pocket $5.
Auditor Sauerbeck yes, the 2004, 2005 ticket sales have been discarded.
Sen. Bucher: who’s responsible in athletics and wouldn’t there be another area to check for this info.
Auditor Sauerbeck: I believe the AD (Nelson Townsend) is responsible for this report. I am not aware of any other records discarded inadvertently. Maybe the VPAC should follow-up and check if there are other areas.
Sen. Bucher: I’m just assuming that the University should want to know where these funds are.
Auditor Sauerbeck: I receive a letter from the AD that several boxes were removed and discarded that were in the concession area.
Sen. Domino: why would ticket sales be in the concession area?
Auditor Sauerbeck: I don’t know.
Ruff, Ruff help ya boy out. Did ya'll really throw those receipts in the trash bin. Come on man fess-up!
ReplyDeleteIs the dumpster Castell & Co.'s new file drawer?
ReplyDeleteFirst of all Nelson Townsend started in Jan 2006. Maybe it was under his administration that 2004 2005 documents were thrown out or may be that happened under someone else. We do not know enough to start with this nonsense and the accusations.
ReplyDeleteI remember Mr. Townsend talking at the booster meeting in Orlando about hot dog machines. He talked about how at the end of the season how hot dog machines were left in the stadium unclean and to rust. Do we really believe that someone did not leave the receipts and ticket information lying around as well? Knowing how we do things at FAMU, I would not be surprised if someone went in and started throwing a bunch of stuff away sitting in the corner---thinking it was trash.
And what janitor did we talk to who could speak for every janitor on the campus? Who said a janitor threw the items away? Any one could have moved the boxes to trash thinking it was trash.
Again, we do not know enough to make mean-spirited statements.
Maybe it was the previous athletic folks who through the items away knowing that something was done wrong. We don't know and let's not speculate.
If you read, Auditor Sauerbeck placed the blame at Mr. Townsend's feet, not RN!!!!
ReplyDeleteAccountability!!! Thats the name of this game. Ultimately the Current AD is accountable. Given the recent climate, 2006 folks will be paying for 2004 mistakes.....
ReplyDeleteRecall that Humphries Audit's passed...
Poster at 3:21 p.m., Townsend was serving as a consultant to Castell as early as Feb/Mar of 2005. His office space was located in the Office of Alumni Affairs, 100 Lee Hall, Florida A&M University, Tallahassee, FL.
ReplyDeletePlease don't misrepresent the facts, when there are others that know the real deal.
BTW, ask ole boy if he really is planning on messin' Ammons up if he doesn't keep him?
Believe me, Townsend knows about the discarded receipts. Remember, Castell had him in charge during the Fall of 2005. Please remember the guy who fired Billy Joe was literally out the Door by Fall of 2005. Therefore, Townsend should be investigated by FDLE as well as Castell, Lizzie, Altha, Janie, and Challis.
ReplyDeleteLord, now, here we go blaming the custodial staff. Good Lord. We all know that a custodial staff will not tamper with such things if they (the things) are not clearly earmarked to be thrown away, because they all know that they will be the first (if not the second or third) group of folks to stand accused. Damn, this is too much finger-pointing. Let the custodial staff do their job. They haven't tossed out a damn thing thing.
ReplyDeleteAccountability is certainly lacking in Athletics!
ReplyDeleteUh...the custodial staff is/was a $15,000 a month outside contractor hired by________________.
ReplyDeleteAnd how does one leave documentation of $1.8 million dollars unsecured in a box in a concession stand? Me thinks somebody is stealing cash sales from the athletic department.
ReplyDeleteSince 2001 we have had 5 athletic directors===ken riley, newt jackson, ramsey, jre lee and townsend. The lack of stability and turnover could have easily lead to misplaced documents.
ReplyDeletePoor policies, procedures and record-keeping. The theme continues across the campus.
Of course, whomever is currently in charge takes the blame. I doubt if a consultant would be responsible over a paid employee. Even if Nelson Townsend was a consultant, there was still an athletic director in place.
Finger pointing helps nothing. We have poor policies, procedures and systems all across the campus. If you read the report, that is the common theme throughout the document.
Organizations that have good systems in place do not lose them overnight just because of changes at high levels. However, when you never had good sytems, policies, training, expertise and procedures in place you get what we currently have......mess!!!
