Sen. Lee Constantine, R-Altamonte Springs, chairman of the Senate Ethics and Elections Committee, has not scheduled a hearing on Lowe's reappointment. Constantine said he was not ruling it out, but there is time for only two regularly scheduled meetings of the panel in the final three weeks of the 2007 session.

''Right now, she has not come across our desk. We're not ready to report out her nomination,'' Constantine said.

If not confirmed, Lowe would leave the board when the Legislature adjourns on May 4.

'I would say there's about a 90 percent chance that Ms. Lowe might not be confirmed by the Senate because of so much opposition,'' Sen. Al Lawson said.

Lawson, said Lowe should withdraw her nomination because of the financial chaos at FAMU and her opposition to new university president James Ammons.

Lowe defiant
But Lowe, contacted in Nashville, told the Tallahassee Democrat that said she has no plans of quitting. She said she hopes for a Senate vote on her reappointment in the final weeks of the 2007 session.

For weeks, Mrs. Lowe and her team have been lobbying hard to save her appointment, trying to persuade legislators to vote for her. But Mrs. Lowe has been running into stiff opposition from a familiar foe, former FAMU Trustee Barney Bishop, President , Associated Industries of Florida, one of the the Capitol's strongest lobby groups.

Bishop said, he has been talking with many legislators and is confident her nomination will not be brought to a vote.

This isn't the first time Mrs. Lowe's nomination went down without a votel. Last year Mrs Lowe, a Board of Governor's appointeee, submitted her paperwork so late that legislators didn't have time to bring it up. The BOG reappointed her.

  2. I say schedule the vote and vote her down once and for all, that way they can't keep reappointing her!

  3. People are wondering why Lowe is fighting so hard to keep her position. The answer is simple: she's used her influence as a FAMU trustee to pay off debts to her friends in the corporate world.

She's pumped money into KPMG because she owes them big. KPMG used to audit the books for Ryder when Lowe worked there. When she was fired from Ryder, the a former KPMG exec on Dollar General's board helped Lowe get her current job there. The Hollins Group also assisted Lowe in her job hunt. She's rewarded them with multi-million dollar contracts as well.

Lowe is a conniving, inept person who thinks that FAMU is a personal piggybank for her and her friends.

Go find your own money Challis! Leave FAMU's dollars alone!

  4. If she doesn't get a vote or is not agenda by the Ethics and Elections committee she will be a two-time loser and consequently, out for good.

I say don't agenda Ms. Lowe and show her the door.

She has served her mission. She should leave with the IP.

  5. 9:26 AM, remember the employee that she got into it with at Ryder that resulted in her dismissal? That was the one who exposed her for the conniving witch that she is.

  6. LOWE MUST GO! wHEN HAS CHALLIS LOWE EVER GIVEN a hoot about FAMU?? Why is she so adamant about not being reappointed? Because the FAMU Board of Trustees is one insitution that she will no longer be able to control with her mean, hateful self. 11:54--what's the story on Lowe and the bad blood betw. her and this employer?

  7. We all hate you, Challis!

  8. Hate is such a strong word.

  9. 10:56--if there was another word stronger than "hate" that could be applied to Challis, I'd serve it up to her on a silver platter. The woman hates us. But does that matter? Obiviously she doesn't love us; heck she doesn't even like us. So I ain' got no problem hating the woman, strong word or not. Holla.

  10. I found that this story has a mixed message.

On the one hand, FAMU's legislative supporters and alumni defeated an FSU-led effort to strip of control of the COE. A great Rattler victory!

On the other hand, this paragraph disturbs me:

Under an amendment from Lynn that senators passed Wednesday, FAMU will undergo an intense forensic audit, provide quarterly progress reports and an annual report on its finances and track recruiting and retention with yearly reports.

If FAMU does not show improvements by the start of the 2008 session, the board that oversees Florida's public universities would recommend "any necessary fiscal emergency actions" to "protect the reputation of the university and students."

For several years now, FAMU has met none of the expectations, timelines, benchmarks, etc. It is going to take Ammmons more than 8 months to hire new administrators to solve FAMU's fiscal problems. Are we setting up our new president for failure?

  13. We can not allow this woman to serve on a board with Dr. Ammons. It would be detrimental to our growth if she stays.

Thanks to everybody who just put Challis' business on front street. I had no idea about her past.

My question is...Why FAMU? Can someone trace the trail that led her to FAMU?
