Head Men's Basketball Mike Gillespe, Sr., was placed on administrative leave yesterday.
In a brief statement issued by the university, athletic director Nelson Townsend said "Gillespie has been placed on paid administrative leave until such time that the pending criminal charges have been resolved.”
"He understands the university's position and hopes to get the matter resolved and get back to being full-time head coach at FAMU," said Tim Jansen, Gillespe's attorney. "We'd like to get this done as quickly as possible so coach can return to work."

ReplyDeleteI have nothing but good things to say about Coach G.
ReplyDeleteFAMU put Gillespie on paid administrative leave simply because they learned a big lesson from the Billy Joe lawsuit: Get the facts before you get to firing folks. This is SO not rocket science.
ReplyDeleteTruthfully, I don't think people see this as a huge deal. Most people think he's singin' along with T-Pain. "I'm spruunnggg..."
ReplyDeleteHell he ain't killed anybody...has he?
ReplyDeleteThese are serious charges against Gillespie. No matter how it turns out, he will be thought of as a stalker. FAMU needs to think long and hard before renewing his contract.
ReplyDeletePeople need to think long and hard before renewing Nelson Townend contract also. He's destroying the department.
ReplyDeleteHow many criminals are currently employed by FAMU?
ReplyDeleteMy word verification is lrsny (larseny) ...yeah I know its spelled with a c... I just thought that was funny
6/02/2007 1:19 AM, Townsend has already destroyed the athletic department. And it will get worse. It does not seem that Dr. Ammons is concerned with the state of FAMU athletics, or making a change for that matter. This could be his downfall, if he keeps a backstabber like Townsend around. It's strange that most of the BOT that voted for Thelma Thompson are already gone and Nelson was her biggest supporter (being from UMES and all) and there is no indication he is going anywhere.
ReplyDeletePack it up Mike! Townsend get ready, you're next!
