Bakari T. Sellers, a 23-year-old state representative in South Carolina is one to keep your eye on. Sellers, who just completed his first term in office represents South Carolina's 90th district and hails from Denmark.
Sellers said he knew going into his first session that all the needed changes wouldn’t be made overnight.
In his first term, Sellers has introduced legislation seeking to reduce childhood obesity and health disparities. In addition, he has been a proponent of increasing scholarships and tuition assistance.
The last two years have been busy for Sellers. The 2005 Morehouse College graduate has juggled being a law student at the University of South Carolina with learning the ropes at the Statehouse.
He is a former Congressional Intern with Congressman Jim Clyburn, 2003 and Mayoral Intern with Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin, 2004.

seems like an impressive young man.
ReplyDeletethis brother is extremely talented and is definately poised to be prominent leader in the black community. just saw him yesterday on c-span on the state of african americans and he spoke eloquently and passionately about the plight of young people and the poor.
ReplyDeletehowever, the old guard leadership better watch out for this guy because he is a staunch believer in NOT looking to the past and using the same methodologies of the 60s to fight our issues. while he admits there are workable models from that generation he does believe new young leadership with innovative methods should be explored and pushed to the forefront. i don't think anything is wrong with that. but, to paraphrase the old saying "old habits (and mindsets) are hard to break."
bakari sellars is definately a brother to keep your eye on.
so basically he is a big government liberal ... wants to get into your kid's lunchbox and tell him what he can eat... THEN he wants to give more government money away so that people can go to college.
ReplyDeleteAnytime a politician gives away money, you have to ask yourself from whence it came. The do not create money. They only steal it from one citizen and give it to another.
quite impressive
^^^^Hater!
ReplyDeleteBig Government Liberal, social justice advocating, whatever, we need more bright kids like him! And, less of the neo-nazi Republicans!
ReplyDeleteWho is the hater? The person that tells you how wonderful you are or the person that tells you the truth?
ReplyDeleteDid you know that there are TWO black presidential candidates this election? One is the FIRST woman ever (I think)to be a party elected presidential nominee. This HAS to be historical.
ReplyDeleteCrazy woman (I'll jack slap any security officer that dares to speaks to me) from Atlanta, Cynthia McKinney is the green (communist) party candidate.
Aren't we proud? I guess I'll take it. Why couldn't it have been someone a little more respectable though? LOL. Then again.. it IS the green party.
