FAMU was the only accredited law school in Florida that did not experience a decline in its first-try bar examination passage rate in February 2010.

FAMU went from 52.6 percent in July 2010 to 55 percent in February 2010, when 11 of the law school’s 20 first-try test takers passed.

Ave Maria led overall with a 100 percent passage rate; it had one student who sat for the bar and passed it. Florida State was second with 84.8 percent, down from 91.4 percent in July 2009.

The national average first-try passage rate was 72.2 percent. Ave Maria, FSU, Nova Southeastern, and the University of Florida were the only law schools that surpassed that mark.

Many FAMU law students take the bar exam two to three times before passing. The law school’s overall passage rate is close to 80 percent.

  2. Probably should have left out that chart in this article and changed the title to "FAMU Bar passage Rate increases". We are still so far behind everyone else it's still pretty sad.

That's like walking into a room of a bunch of track athletes and bragging that your waistline went from 48 to 46 inches, while all of them put on 3 extra pounds.

  3. Great improvement. I look forward to more. OT(sorta):If the State posted first time drivers license passage rates, what would it say? If 80% is passing, there is hope for improvement on first passage. Otherwise its not that serious of an indicator as to the legal education. Gotta be careful not to put too much into that. Those of us who still regularly test for certification exams and continuing education may have a more realistic feeling about this. I'm all for improvements everywhere.

  4. Shouldn't you expect the listed universities scores to be higher than FAMU's when they've been at it longer? In comparison, FAMU's law school is still in its infancy.

Give her some time to organized her infrastruture. You'll see.

  5. 10:18 is correct, 55%? would this be an A, B, C, D, or F school according to the FCAT?

  6. 1:17 PM,
If I'm not mistaken, FAMU and FIU both received their law programs in the same year. FIU's passing first time passing rate is much better than ours.

  7. Jeb Bush chose good trustees for FIU who supported their law school. Bush gave FAMU sorry trustees who let the law school fall into turmoil.
