“It is with great sadness that I inform you of the passing
of Florida State Senator Larcenia Bullard," Aaron T. McKinney, Dwight
Bullard’s legislative assistant, announced in a Saturday email. “Please keep
Senator Dwight Bullard and the Bullard Family in your prayers during their time
of bereavement. Funeral arrangements will be announced once details are
finalized.”
Bullard represented Miami throughout her career in the
Florida Legislature. She was a state representative from 1992 to 2000 and a
state senator from 2002 until the end of her term limits in 2012.
Her husband, Edward Bullard, held her former House seat from
2000 to 2008. Larcenia and Edward’s son, Dwight, followed in their footsteps by
winning the 118th district House seat in 2008 and serving in that position
until 2012. During the 2012, Dwight Bullard emerged victorious in the race to
succeed his mother in the Florida Senate.
Gov. Rick Scott expresses his condolences for the Bullard
family with the following statement: “Today, Florida lost a strong leader. Ann
and I join all Floridians as we mourn the passing of Senator Larcenia Bullard.
She represented the families of South Florida with passion and integrity. Our
thoughts and prayers go out to those close to her and the rest of Florida as we
honor a woman who put her constituents first. We remain grateful to Senator
Bullard for her service to this great state and pray that her family can find
peace during this difficult time.”
