Tomorrow, FAMU will take on fourth seeded Norfolk State in
the opening round at the campus of Coppin State in Baltimore, Md.
The Lady Rattlers are looking to end their two-year streak
as bridesmaids. They finished as the runners-up in the conference in 2012,
2011, and 2010.
Head Coach Tony Trifonov and his teams previously dominated the MEAC, winning nine consecutive conference titles from 2000 to 2009. While Trifonov remains proud of that accomplishment, he doesn’t think any MEAC team will repeat that feat any time soon.
“I don’t see anyone making a run like that in the near
future. This conference has really
gotten better in volleyball. During the
regular season, MEAC teams are knocking off tough competition from larger
schools,” Trifonov said.
