Two busloads of FAMU students, administrators and
recruitment reps traveled to South and Central Florida to make the pathway to
college a little easier for several deserving high school seniors this week.
Interim President Larry Robinson awarded more than $350,000 in scholarships
during the annual President’s Tour, which made stops in Tampa, Ft. Myers, Ft.
Lauderdale and Miami.
Robinson delivered one key message to each group of eager
students: You can get anywhere from FAMU!
“There are so many reasons to attend FAMU, including our
array of strong academic programs, our engaged student leaders, the rich
cultural experience, our numerous corporate partners seeking to employ our
students and our noted success in sending our students to the nation’s best
graduate and professional programs,” said Robinson. “We prepare FAMU graduates
to take on the toughest challenges facing the world at large.”
School of Journalism & Graphic Communication Dean Ann Wead Kimbrough and College of Agriculture and Food Sciences Dean Robert Taylor attended the tour in order to personally invite students to join their respective degree programs.
“FAMU is a high-touch university and we want to know our
students on a personal level because it makes the college experience more
rewarding for all involved,” said Kimbrough. “When I recommend students for
internships with CBS or CNN, I can do so with confidence because I know my
students and the work ethic they’ve developed through our programs.”
The FAMU Connection, the university’s recruitment performing
group, entertained the crowds through song and dance while sharing FAMU’s rich
history. Mr. and Miss FAMU, the Royal Court and the FAMU Presidential
Ambassadors met with students and gave their personal testimonies on what led
them to their decision to attend FAMU.
“The President’s Tour is our opportunity to bring a little
bit of FAMU to the best and brightest students,” said Vice President of Student
Affairs William Hudson, Jr. “Once prospective students have a chance to feel
the energy and see the enthusiasm in how our student ambassadors and staff talk
about the university, it becomes clear that this is the place where they
belong.”
