With the first kick-off of the Rattler football season approaching,
Admasen Felix is ready for his new leadership role on the receiving corps.
Head Football Coach Earl Holmes believes that if the Rattler
offense is to shake its woes from last season, Felix will be an integral part
of the progression.
“He’s a senior and he has been consistent throughout his
time here. He was hampered by injury last season, but as I told him, now is the
time to turn it on and turn it up,” Holmes said.
Felix is a leader on and off the field. His academics earned
him the Tri-Eagle Sales Charlie Brown Award two seasons ago. It was an award given to a student-athlete
who excelled on the field, had good academic standing, but was not on
scholarship. He is a soft-spoken person,
but he can be a potent weapon in Quinn Gray’s offense.
“So far, so good in camp. I feel like I’m catching everything. We have no problems with getting to the balls. I think that’s a big change from last year. Our Offense is moving up and down the field and I think we will be able to score at will,” Felix said.
That’s a far cry from the stagnant offense that plagued the
Rattlers last season. The highest number of points the offense scored last
season was 27, which they posted in two separate games. With the exception of
the Ohio State game, only Morgan State scored more than 30 points on the
Rattler defense. This year’s success, by
virtually every account, will be based on offensive productivity.
With the return of Damien Fleming, the experience gained by
Carson Royal and the athleticism of Shazzon Mumphrey, the Rattlers are looking
to have the ability to score more points and rely on the experience of the
defense, which itself will be much improved.
Felix, had his best season in 2012, where he played 11 games,
gaining 368 yards receiving. He had a long catch of 52 yards and scored one
touchdown. The Palm Beach, Fla., native
attended Lake Worth High School, where he was a standout in football. He says he
is ready for the challenge he’ll face this season.
“Our coaches have simplified the offense to where everyone,
including the freshmen are on point. I’m
looking forward to win…we lacked that last year. We want to show everyone that we are the top
team in the MEAC. It would be nice to
earn All-MEAC, but the big goal is to win as a team and bring back the pride
that Rattlers everywhere could be proud of,” Felix concluded.
