The Florida governor’s office and Florida Board of Governors have mainly appointed men to run the Boards of Trustees of the public universities in Tallahassee even though most of the students are women.

At Florida A&M University, 64 percent of the students are women. But 81 percent of the appointed members of the FAMU Board of Trustees (BOT) are men. There are no alumni women in any of the 11 appointed seats.

At Florida State University, 55 percent of the students are women. But men are also 81 percent of its appointed BOT members.

The University of Florida has about the same percentages as FSU. For Fall 2017, it had 55,862 students and 53.78 percent of them were women. But 81 percent of the appointed UF BOT members are men.

Seven of the 11 appointed UF trustees, or 63 percent, are alumni men. They are: James W. Heavener, David L. Brandon, Leonard H. Johnson, Daniel O’Keefe, Rahul Patel, Jason J. Rosenberg, and Robert G. Stern.

There are two non-alumni men with appointments to the UF BOT: Mori Hosseini and Tom Kuntz.

The remaining two trustees are Marsha D. Powers and Anita G. Zucker. They are the only women on the UF BOT and are alumni of the school.
