FAMU alumnus Adam Jefferson Richardson, the Senior Bishop of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, delivered the keynote address, and 300 students received degrees during FAMU’s 2019 Summer Commencement ceremony at the Al Lawson Multipurpose Center and Teaching Gymnasium on Friday, Aug. 2.
Of the 300 graduates at summer commencement, 227 earned bachelor’s degrees, 57 earned master’s degrees, and 16 received doctoral degrees.
In the August 2019 graduating class, 49 Florida counties, 32 U.S. states and 5 foreign countries were represented. Women made up 63.69 percent of the graduates, and men made up 36.31 percent.
Richardson, who was celebrating both the 50th anniversary of his graduation from FAMU and his elevation to the highest post in the AME Church,  congratulated the graduates on their accomplishments, but warned this isn’t the conclusion of their journey of learning, but just the beginning.

The 300 new summer graduates, join the more than 1,200 graduates who walked across the stage at the spring commencement as new FAMU alumni.
