FAMU head football coach Willie Simmons, and the Rattler football team were recognized by the the Leon County School Board, last evening, for their work with students at Bond Elementary School.  This year, the Rattler football team adopted the students of the elementary school on Tallahassee's south side.

“Bond Elementary is literally right around the corner from our campus, with the heart we have for the little ones in our community we felt compelled as a football team to adopt the school,” said Willie Simmons.  “We look forward to our continued partnership (with Bond).  Our reading endeavor was just the first opportunity to work with the great students of Bond."

“We are just excited to be able to give back to this great community that we call home on the south side,” Simmons said. “We don’t this for recognition, we do it because it is the right thing to do.”

Chris Jerry
Delshauana Jackson, principal of Bond Elementary, told the board “that Coach Simmons assisted the school with ‘morning duty’ by helping students get out of their cars safely, and jump started their days with a big smile, and a high five."

“Because of COVID-19, members of the football team weren’t able to visit the school (in person), but read books to the students virtually,” Jackson said.
