Marlon A. Walker, a 2005 graduate of the FAMU School of Journalism and Graphic Communications, has been named executive editor of the Clarion Ledger Newspaper in Jackson Mississippi. Walker was also named Mississippi state editor for the USA TODAY Network. He will begin his new role immediately.
Walker is an award-winning journalist, whose previous experience includes stints at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the Tampa Bay Times, The News & Observer in Raleigh, North Carolina, The Associated Press, The Telegraph in Macon, Georgia, The St. Louis Post-Dispatch and the Detroit Free Press.
While a student, Walker honed his craft as a reporter and editor for the FAMUan student newspaper where his pen a slew of memorable, and well written, stories such as his account about almost losing a friend to money, his rant about illegally recording music from the internet, the importance of the press, and his final column about his upcoming graduation. Walker’s columns, and stories, were clear, to the point, and entertaining. They drew you in to the point that you sensed that he was a natural born story teller and editor.
