Under the pilot phase, four student cohorts will benefit from the program, with plans for further expansion based on assessment and feedback. Participating first-year students, alongside the faculty guiding them, will receive Apple iPad Pro devices, complete with an Apple Pencil for note-taking and sketching, and complimentary technical support from Apple.
One of the standout features of the Digital Rattler Initiative is the commitment to affordability and accessibility. Upon graduation, students have the option to purchase their iPad for a symbolic $1, ensuring continued access to the tools that have become integral to their
academic journey.
Faculty members involved in the initiative have undergone specialized training through a summer learning community focused on integrating iPad usage into the first-year experience seminar. This investment in faculty development underscores the commitment of both FAMU and Apple to providing comprehensive support for students as they navigate their educational journey.
