FAMU's softball program is set to welcome back a familiar face to its coaching staff, as former standout catcher Nyah Morgan transitions into a new role as a graduate assistant. The announcement was made by head coach Brittany Beall, who is excited to have Morgan's expertise and experience back with the Rattlers.
Morgan, a two-time All-Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Second Team honoree, has recently concluded her playing career at FAMU, where she made significant contributions to the team's success. Her accolades include recognition on the 2024 SWAC All-Tournament Team, further solidifying her status as one of the program's key players.
Throughout her time as a Rattler, Morgan compiled impressive statistics, including 108 hits, 84 runs batted in, 38 doubles, 12 home runs, and seven triples. Her performance on the national stage was equally noteworthy, ranking 22nd in the nation with 16 doubles in 2022 and sixth with six sacrifice flies in 2023.
As a graduate assistant, Morgan will be instrumental in mentoring the team's catchers and players, drawing from her extensive experience and technical knowledge of the game. Her role will also involve assisting with practice planning, game preparation, and player development, ensuring that the Rattlers maintain their competitive edge.
Head Coach Brittany Beall expressed her enthusiasm for Morgan's return, stating, "Nyah's leadership and understanding of the game will be invaluable to our program. Her experience as a player and her dedication to the sport make her an excellent addition to our coaching staff."
Morgan's appointment comes at a pivotal time for the FAMU softball program, which is looking to build on past successes and aim for further achievements in the upcoming season. With a blend of talent, experience, and passion, Morgan is poised to make a significant impact in her new role, helping to guide the Rattlers to new heights in college softball.
