Former FAMUAll-American football player Markquese Bell has signed a three-year contract extension worth upwards of $12 million with the Dallas Cowboys. This deal keeps Bell out of the open market as a restricted free agent.
Bell, who went undrafted in the 2022 NFL Draft, initially signed an undrafted free-agent deal with the Cowboys. He saw limited action as a rookie, playing in just five games and recording a single tackle. However, his role expanded in his sophomore season due to injuries on the team, allowing him to showcase his skills.
In the 2023 season, Bell made the most of his increased playing time, recording 94 total tackles (second on the team), 3.0 tackles for loss, four pass breakups, and two forced fumbles (also second on the team). His impressive performance earned him the title of HBCU Spotlight Player of the Year at the Super Bowl Soulful Celebration.
In 2024, Bell returned to primarily special teams duties but suffered a season-ending shoulder injury in the team’s Week 11 contest against the Houston Texans.
Bell began his college career at Coffeyville Community College before transferring to FAMU in 2019. During his two seasons with the Rattlers, he made a significant impact, earning All-Conference honors each year and being named an FCS All-American in 2021. He finished his college career with 156 total tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks, six interceptions, 10 pass breakups, and seven forced fumbles.
This contract extension is a testament to Bell's hard work and dedication, solidifying his place as a valuable member of the Dallas Cowboys' defense.
