Emmy Award-winning journalist Jacque Reid will serve as the Hearst Visiting Guest Lecturer in the FAMU School of Journalism & Graphic Communication (SJGC) this semester, bringing her extensive industry expertise to students through an immersive masterclass series.

Reid, a nationally recognized media personality and executive, will lead a four-part program titled “How to Be an Independent Journalist,” designed to mentor juniors and seniors at SJGC. The series aims to equip students with practical skills and strategic insights needed to succeed in a rapidly shifting media environment.

“We are proud to have our students benefit from the talent and passion that Jacque brings to every project she takes on,” said SJGC Dean Mira Lowe. “As we continue to experience shifts in the industry and advancements in how news and information are presented, it is critical that we equip our students with the tools they need to thrive.”

Reid’s career includes stints at NBC, CNN, ABC, and BET, with prominent on-air contributions to programs like “The Tom Joyner Morning Show.” She is also the creator and host of “The Jacque Reid Experience” podcast and co-host of “Reid This Reid That” alongside journalist Joy-Ann Reid. Beyond journalism, Reid is the founder and CEO of Vegan Sexy Cool, a platform promoting plant-based living.

Her masterclass will offer students behind-the-scenes access to the world of independent journalism, featuring live conversations with prominent media figures and practical guidance on building a sustainable career across multiple platforms.

“This is about more than reporting—it’s about creating your own lane and owning your voice,” Reid said in a statement. “Today’s journalists need to be versatile, entrepreneurial, and authentic. I’m excited to help these students forge their paths.”

Students who complete the masterclass will receive a certificate and become eligible for a summer internship, further bridging academic training with real-world experience.

The appointment underscores FAMU’s commitment to providing hands-on learning opportunities that reflect contemporary media trends and demands. Reid’s residency begins next month.
