Over the past year, this dynamic community has been challenged, yet we have demonstrated what it means to lead with integrity and dogged determination. We have been grounded in service and a responsibility to protect our ideals of a better tomorrow.
We know that there is so much to be thankful for in 2025, and much more excite in store for 2026. We will continue to extend our influence from the "Highest of Seven Hills" to the global stage. And, continue to balance the traditional ideals of upward mobility with the modern crises of access, affordability, institutional autonomy, and inclusion—all while fostering a culture where critical thinking and intellectual curiosity are not just encouraged, but celebrated.
“What sets the Rattler Nation apart is its unwavering belief in the power of unity,” said Phyllis Welch, Ph.D., a FAMU professor of sociology. “In a time when many feel divided, Rattlers have shown how shared values—like tolerance, liberty, and a commitment to achievement—can bring people together to drive meaningful change.”
As the calendar turns, the focus shifts to the future. Challenges remain —national economic uncertainty, social inequity, and political overreach and interference from all levels —but the Rattler Nation is resilient and will continue to rise to the occasion, as the alma mater says we will "fight and win what'er the battle be"!
We must continue to stay engaged, Rattler Nation by joining the FAMU National Alumni Association to foster dialogue, and we must continue to support students who seek a brighter tomorrow.
