College of Law Moves into New Home

The FAMU College of Law moved into its permanent home at 201 Beggs Ave. in downtown Orlando over the holidays. The new $31 million, 161,000-square-foot facility will provide an extraordinary environment for teaching and learning law. The new state of the art facility includes a law library, offices and classrooms. It is located in downtown Orlando next to a federal courthouse.

The building was designed by graduates of the FAMU School of Architecture.

The College was reestablished in 2000 and received its first class in August 2002 and received provisional accreditation by the American Bar Association in August 2004 (the College is not yet eligible for full accreditation). The new FAMU Law graduated its first class in May 2005. The College's history dates back to 1949 and some of its prominent graduates include U.S. Rep. Alcee Hastings,D-FL, and State Rep. Arthenia Joyner, D-Tampa.

Today, the FAMU College of Law enrolls more than 400 full and part-time students.
