FAMU's Men's Tennis Coach Carl Goodman was named 2006 MEAC Coach of the Year, while FAMU's Frank Green was named conference Player of the Year. The honors came last evening at the MEAC Championships Banquet last night.
Goodman, in his ninth season as the Rattlers' head coach has guided his team to an 18-7 record and a perfect 10-0 record in conference play. FAMU has been in the conference finals for the last seven seasons, last winning the title in 2000.
Green,a first team selection went undefeated in MEAC play with an impressive 10-0 record. He finished the season with an overall record of 21-5.
Three other Rattlers received second team honors ---Clifford Malvert, Artiom Podgainii, and Jarrel Williams.
This is quite an accomplishment for Goodman and the FAMU Men's Tennis Team which after last season had faced an uncertain future. On June 30th last year the FAMU Board of Trustees voted unaimously to drop men's tennis, along with men's golf, and men's and women's swimming, in an effort to close a $3.3 million athletic budget deficit.
