Colleges Using Student blogs to Lure Applicants To Campus
Given the enrollment crisis FAMU is currently facing, down more than 3,000 students since 2001, I thought I'd share an interesting tidbit I came across ---blogs! It seems that student blogs are more than just sophomoric ramblings about college life. They are one of several Web-based recruitment strategies colleges across the country are using to lure tech-savvy high-schoolers to their campuses. See: Blogging for students While, nobody expects FAMU to try using Rattler Nation for this purpose, I just thought I'd pass this info along. Especially, considering the number of "Facebook" accounts and "Myspace" pages on campus.
See what i'm talking about: Mr. FAMU
Stuff like this is huge!
Virtual Commencements
Can't make it to commencement? Watch it from your computer. Increasingly, colleges and universities throughout the nationn are streaming their commencement ceremonies on the University's Internet site. "For people (who live) in other parts of the country or overseas ... this would be a nice touch (for the college) to add to commencement," said Laura O'Neil, Boston University's director of commencement. Internet users can log on to the site and click on "Watch It Live" to view the activities in real time. This should have been a no brainer for FAMU since we already broadcast convocations and other events on the web. Even Howard University got in on the act this year. See: Howard Commencement '06
Last admissions cycle, my alma mater started using blogs as a form of recruitment. We have student bloggers and admissions staff (mostly our younger staff) blogging about the school and the admissions process. My understanding is that it's been a very important tool in the recruitment process. I'm sure my Rattler husband would be glad to be on the team of bloggers hired to blog on FAMU admissions.
ReplyDeleteBoth are great ideas.
