FAMU Rattlers triumph over Jackson State Tigers in SWAC showdown

The FAMU Rattlers men's basketball team secured a decisive 72-62 victory over the Jackson State Tigers at the Lee E. Williams Athletic and Assembly Center on Monday night.

Jordan Chatman led the charge for the Rattlers, scoring a game-high 18 points. Milton Matthews contributed significantly with 17 points and Kaleb Washington was a force to be reckoned with, adding 16 points and grabbing nine rebounds. Roderick Coffee III also made his mark, scoring 12 points in the game.  The win helped the Rattlers extend their winning streak to four games and moved them into fifth place in SWAC standings.  

The Rattlers faced some shooting challenges in the first half, hitting just 31.1 percent from the floor (10-of-32) and 28.6 percent from beyond the arc (6-of-21). They managed to sink only one three-pointer in the first 20 minutes. Yet they were able to end the first half with an impressive 27-21 advantage over the  Tigers. 

FAMU found their rhythm in the second half, shooting an impressive 60.0 percent from the floor (15-of-25) and maintaining a 28.6 percent three-point shooting rate (2-of-7). They also demonstrated strong free throw shooting, hitting 76.5 percent from the line (13-of-17).

Defensively, the Rattlers dominated the boards, winning the rebounding battle 38-29. They also forced 17 turnovers while committing 18 themselves.

The Rattlers will look to continue their winning streak this Saturday, February 1, at 6 p.m. when they return to the Al Lawson Center.
