Overheard on the elevator
SBI's incoming freshman class is expected to be one of the smallest in about 20 years. We are also hearing that SBI will be lowering its admissions standards a bit too.
With the departure of founding Dean Sybil Mobley, and languishing for nearly five years without a permanent Dean, SBI seems to have lost its appeal with students.

Shrinking Enrollment A Concern
I'm not the biggest fan of the present admin...who am I kidding...I'm not a fan, but in my opinion their is no need to pile on...the fact that we are expecting such a small class is horrible enough...but their is no need to imply that the reason we are lowering standards in SBI is because of that...one of the reasons is to get our admissions policy in line with what our practice to assist us in the process of getting SBI accredited.
ReplyDeleteTrue, but it seems to bolster enrollment borderline students maybe let in. Warm bodies are needed now more than ever.
ReplyDeleteIt may actually happen the way you suggest...but whoever writes these article are very informed on the admin and thus many people rely on their reports to inform us of what is going on at the hill...if the writers lose credibility on some small meaningless issue it affects the clarity and effectiveness of the message which is...its time for a change in leadership.
ReplyDeleteContrary to popular belief, this blog doesn't REALLY have a underlying message. We just spreading the news like IT IS!
ReplyDeleteIt is our hope that we are an enlightening source of information for the masses and at some point an exception to the imperial rulers at FAMU who would have us all in the dark.

ReplyDeleteIt would be nice to get this information from the administration.
Were you aware that enrollment was declining, the audit report hasn't been finalized, and layoffs are on the horizon?
Just like many others I am getting my info from here. Sometimes the NY Times isn't 100% correct or the network news either. But people still listen because they are thirsty for info.
Wonder if the average decline in nationwide SAT scores have anything to do with this . . .
ReplyDeleteOh please. Right now we have 5000 sophomores and 500 juniors. That's right. Go to the Florida board of governor's page yourself and check it out.

If you are smart enough to change the dates in the URL, you can trend it all yourself.
Unintentional declining enrollment is NEVER a good thing. At best it is a symptom of mismanagement, at worst a precursor of disaster.
Anonymous @ 12:19 pm... so are you implying that SBI can no longer find more than 200 students with 21 ACT score and/or a 1010 SAT score and a measily 3.0 gpa?
ReplyDeleteCould it be that students coming fresh out of high school no longer find the FAMU experience enticing?
