Black Enterprise magazine has ranked Florida A&M as the best U.S. college/university for Black students in its September 2006 edition. The annual ranking has consistently ranked FAMU well (among the top 6) as the best colleges for Black students.
FAMU had the highest social score of all schools, the highest academic score among the HBCUs, and the highest Black enrollment of Black students of all schools listed.
Here's the top 10:
1. Florida A&M
2. Howard
3. North Carolina A&T
4. Harvard
5. Spelman
6. Hampton
7. Standford
8. Columbia
9. Pennsylvania
10. Wesleyan
Perennial favorite Morehouse dropped from among the top five to No. 45 this year.
Ok, I'm cool with the ranking, number-wise, but what is a "social score"? Does it mean that FAMU's students have more socialization skills than, say, some other HBCU? Does it mean that the school is a "social" place to visit? How is the term defined in relationship to the school, students, staff and/or faculty? Lots of questions for me.

ReplyDeleteFinally, something positive
ReplyDeleteRanking was based on previous two years
ReplyDeleteBeing a 1989 graduate of FAMU, that is great news.
