Faculty file Grievances

The eight SBI professional development faculty slated for layoff by Patrick Liverpool have all filed grievances against the university for violating the collective bargaining agreement between FAMU and the faculty union.

UFF chief negotiator at FAMU Bill Tucker told the Capital Outlook the university violated the collective bargaining agreement which states that, depending on the number of year’s a faculty member was employed by the university, faculty members should be given a minimum of a year’s notice or a year’s pay before their contract with the university is terminated. See: SBI faculty file grievances

The grievances by the SBI facutly is just one of a growing number of legal actions filed against the university in the past 18 months. In fact, the escalating number of legals actions related to employment issues has grown so much that it has prompted the university to hire a labor attorney. In addition to the incident with the SBI facutly, Castell & Co. recently took agressive personnel actions to stop an investigation by interim inspector general Michael Brown and the assistant inspector general which are sure to result in additional legal actions against the university. This administration also removed former football coach Billy Joe citing unspecified NCAA rules violations only to have the NCAA clear him of any wrong doing. Mr. Joe has two year remaining on his employment contract with the university, which FAMU has refused to honor. A legal action is pending.

  1. In the 119 year history of FAMU has never used an executive search firm to hire a president. The NAA should get behind a strong candidate (James Ammons at NCCU comes to mind) and fight for that person to be included in the process. Ammons has institutional knowledge and history of when FAMU was on top and could rally all stakeholders to pull together and change course. It's time to make a change!

  2. FAMU used a search firm to land Fred Gainous

  3. Another reason the FAMU NAA should push hard for it's candidate to be included with those a search firm finds and back him or her strongly.

  4. Confusion: Everyone spends an inordinate amount of time trying to figure out what is going. People fall all over themselves and one another trying to predict what will happen next and how to deal with it.

Self-centerdness: Individuals, particularly “the leader,” making the self the center of the universe. Everything that happens is thus perceived as an assault on or affirmation of the self.

Dishonesty: Master liars perfect the “con” to a fine art by first lying to themselves in order to stay out of touch with what they are feeling and what they know and need. Then they lie to people around them, and by so doing, create a confusing and dishonest organizational system.

Perfectionism: Individuals in leadership positions always know the answers, are first with the solution, never make a mistake, and expect the impossible from everyone. Mistakes are unacceptable and when they do occur, they are quickly denied or covered up.

Illusion of Control: Individuals constantly preoccupied with preoccupied with controlling one another. Managers try to control employees; employees avoid being controlled, and everyone is going crazy. Control is an illusion because no one can truly control anything.

Ethical deterioration: Personal morality is comprised as a result of engaging in all the processes described above.

Do the characteristics described above sound familiar? If so, who or what do they describe?

  5. ... Hard to get behind someoone - or be taken seriously - when you don't toss any loot into the kitty.

Going by the article on UCF's nre Prez, the State currently only pays the first $225,000 of their salary. The REST comes from private contributions.

I betcha if the NAA put some major G's behind paying the Prez's salary, I guarantee you that you will likely not need anyone to find a Prez for you ... I'm sure at that point, the NAA WOULD make their voice loud and clear!!

    Question ...

What makes any of you so sure that Ammons even wants to - or is even interested in - return to FAMU?

Because ... Right now it's becoming apparently clear that "Institutional Knowledge" doesn't seem to be all that much of a benefit to FAMU health!!

  6. And it makes it even harder to get any loot in the kitty when stuff like this is going on and certain BOT members are hooking their partners up left and right.

BTW, how many G's have you put in the kitty since C&C have been in office, minus season tickets and the things you pay and get something in return for?

    Just askin

  8. the NAA should work to supplement the president's salary to 400K. That would do the trick. The state is not paying for anymore than 250Kish.

Just set up the "presidential salary endowment" and start putting money in it. By the numbers, we would need 4 million dollars in the endowment to make it work.

  9. If FAMU was operating on the levels as the other universities it would not be trying to break the back of the NAA to supplement these initiatives.

Since it isn't operating like the others, it's behaving like most black preachers, tax the church members (new car, fine suits, and a fine house) until they get feed up and go some place else to worship.

A vision would do. Let the BOT put the first $4 million in the foundation (since they make all the decisions/are the reason we are in this sad state of affairs). Then let them come up with a real campaign to raise funds. Once they get their act together, others will follow because they are finally leading by example.

Just Asking ... Or just continuing to show your green-eyed envy and jealousy?

But - Nonetheless ... Taking out ANY Tickets or Alumni Memberships I've tried to help the School sell, I will just say that I have contributed more to my Alma Mater than YOU and everyone on this Board ... COMBINED!

    "What About YOU?!"

"You - or anyone else out here - Up For A Challenge?"

  13. Unlike our IP ...

I'm TOTALLY confident that my comments - and numbers - will stand up!!

What are any of you willing to put up ... To find out?

I think you all would do better to try to pool your ATL Classic liquor money - And silence Mickey Mouse's Beat Writer ... Who just called you out in their paper the other day to "Just Shut Up - And Just DO Something For your School!" first!
