The FAMU College of Law appears to be catching on. Applications and admissions to the College are on the rise. In 2004 the College received 540 applications and admitted 294 with 120 students enrolling. In 2005, 813 applied and 295 were admitted, while 172 eventually enrolled. This year 1121 applied, 472 students were admitted and 256 enrolled.
The College has increased its black enrollment from about 35 percent to 52 percent. The total student count at the FAMU College of Law is about 520 students.
If the Law School enrollment is 520, does this mean that main campus enrollment is about 10,500?
ReplyDeleteNo, you must also consider those students attending the off-campus classes, such as pharmacy, education, and criminal justice in other cities such as Miami, Tampa, Jacksonville and Lakeland. The enrollment in those off-campus programs must be acconted for in order to find out the on-campus enrollment.
ReplyDeleteWhoever's doing the recruiting down on that end needs to step up on this end and use those same techniques. FAMU is eventually going to become FSU-FAMU. It may not happen for a minute, but Castell & Co., under the direction of Jeb Bush, are giving the school away. Just watch what I say. And everything George Gore, Ben Perry, Walter Smith and Fred Humphries fought so valiantly for will be gone down the drain. Castell "Leatherface" Bryant is going to the death of us all. She and Debra Austin. Mark my word.

ReplyDelete"...going to be the death of us all..."
Please can we keep the comments to the law school. Enrollment is a major factor considered for final accreditation. Can't we just celebrate the good press from Black Enterprise, Tallahassee Democrat, and others?
ReplyDeleteI believe the discussion was much broader than the Law School. It also included enrollment based on the "Law School Catching on to Enrollment Increasing".
ReplyDeleteAre those pictures of actuall rattler law students?
ReplyDeleteNo.
ReplyDeleteYa know, I have been following Debra Austin since she was at TCC. Yes they may have given her a raw deal then, but how in the hell did she end up at FAMU?! I think that she needs to go with Castell and a few of the "trustees". Please, trusTeases is what they are. I think that they are the trojan horse we've heard about so much.
ReplyDeleteThe figures that are published are for undergraduate enrollment. Usually that is what's published. Also, the Law school seems to be fine with enrollment numbers and we have a few graduates who have begun the advanced degree program at UF. Not only in school there for this highly intensive, and selective program but on the Law review and wreckin' shop. Law exam results came out 9/18/06.
