Retired FAMU professor Willie Roberts' observations on the FAMU BOT are worth taking a look at. See: FAMU deserves more from its BOT
Mr. Roberts wrote, "at its June meeting, the BOT instructed the interim president to honor the collective bargaining agreement which includes a one year notification of employment termination. This instruction remains to be carried out by the interim president for the SBI 8. In addition, the interim president’s failure to carry out the BOT’s instruction has left students without teachers, as noted by Bill Tucker. By allowing this deplorable condition to exist in the classroom, the BOT is derelict in its duties and thereby has tarnished its integrity."
If the FAMU BOT does not honor Thomas Brown’s request that it select a truly independent and competent investigator for this matter, then the BOT will be endorsing the appearance of a cover-up. How can someone who is not a CPA “review” Michael Brown who is a CPA?, The “review” which was dictated by the subject of the investigation does not pass the smell test.
ReplyDeleteThe same way someone who is not a member of the Florida Bar or a CPA is now the VP for Audit and Compliance; the same way someone who has never written/published a paper in a referred journal is the Provost; the same way someone who has never been a part of a SACS reaffirmation process is now leading one at FAMU; and the same way so many other things at FAMU just don't make sense because the person calling the shots is Castell.
ReplyDeleteI thought the SBI eight have now been paid is that correct? Is the complaint just that they have not received notice of their termination, but if they have or are about to be paid wouldn't that make this issue moot.
ReplyDeleteI didn't realize that Debra Austin had no refered work...make her appointment to a scholarly position so glaring.
When are we going to rise for the "Benediction" to the awful administration?
ReplyDeleteThe provost has not ONE article in a refereed publication?? And she calls herself a PROVOST?? Does anyone realize that the provost is the VP of ACADEMIC AFFAIRS? Academic...books/publications/
ReplyDeletearticles, etc. What has Castell done along these lines? Not much. How much do you know to do when your "degree" is from a correspondence school (Nova), awarded X # of years ago, when the school was in the experimental phase of long-distance instruction? And these people choose to fire people when they, themselves, have not a twinkling of the academic credentials of the people they've fired?? This is absolutely unbelievably incredulous! Are we not the laughingstock of the entire state university system, not to mention outside the state system? One of the first things that a university president has, as well as a provost, is evidence of publication. Who else among them lack such worthy credentials but sitteth at the right hand of the interim president? Unbelievble.
I move that we proceed on down the agenda directly to the "benediction".
