Presidential Search a Hoax ?

Speculation is running rampant throughout the FAMU community that the BOT will move to name interim resident, umm president, Castell Bryant president when the full board meets on December 7th.

Rattler Nation has learned that several trustees have been shopping (seeking buy in) scenario which would suspend the search for a new president and name Ms. Bryant FAMU’s 10th president. The logic behind doing this is, “the search didn’t attract many/any quality candidates. And, what we have now (Castell) is better than the pool of candidates we attracted.”

Other excuses being used to justify such a move is, “Morehouse is in the middle of a search now also and they attracted the better candidates.” While it maybe true that Morehouse is indeed beginning its presidential search (also being conducted by the Hollins Group), most job search applicants typically apply for more than one job at time.

To make this scenario even more interesting, we are hearing that trustees will move to give Ms. Bryant another fat salary increase and a bonus.

For the FAMU BOT to abandon the search for a new leader at this critical juncture would be a travesty. A new leader is something that FAMU stakeholders have waited nearly 24 months for.

As BOT Chair Challis Lowe said when she moved to terminate Fred Gainous’ contract, "We (FAMU) are bleeding profusely. We can't wait another two years. We can't even wait another two months to get this university back on track. We must take action now."

Ms. Bryant, herself, had this to say in Feburary 2002, when interim president Henry Lewis expressed his interest in holding the job on a permanent basis, "It is inappropriate, unprofessional and just short of inciting chaos. It creates a cloud that places the integrity of the board on the line. I'm disappointed, yet not surprised."

  2. If you don't want the truth, then don't come to this blog. Keep your rose-colored blinders on and continue to take in all the spin from Lee Hall.

This blog is for real Rattlers who care about FAMU's future.

  3. Is the Law School Dean Search a hoax as well? Isn't the old dean leaving in 30 days? Is there a replacement in mind? Weren't there three candidates to become permanent dean?

No. There are BOT members who've made it clear that they don't want Bryant to go anywhere. Remember when W. George Allen tried to stop the board from approving a presidential search timeline? He and Challis Lowe have worked consistently to frustrate the process.

Lowe, Allen, and Bryant are thick as thieves and are working to sabotage the search process. Their coup will probably also have the blessings of clowns like Wilbert Hobbs and Joseph Wright.

  11. Bryant has done a good job of damaging FAMU's national reputation, creating a larger deficit, decreasing enrollment, and violating labor rights. If you want this type of harm to continue, then you are either ignorant or anti-FAMU.

  12. I know some people are going to be like the heck with me and don't let the door nob hit me, but i will go on record as saying that if Ms. Bryant is made president of FAMU I am going to withdraw my membership for the Alumni Association and the Boaster Club.

As long as she is at the helm, I will not support FAMU at all. I will also not use my influence in education and in sports to attract students.

  14. I too am upset with the turn of events that has transpired. I have made calls, talked to many, and quite frankly I am disgusted. But I have come to realize that all the b****ing and moaning is not going to change a thing. Castell has carte blanche and it ain't a thing we can do about it.

How do you go on record anonymously?

I gave Castell 12 months of Benefit of the Doubt, her hiring of Dr. Austin however has shown her incompetence or lost touch with reality. I was a little too involved in the SBI dean search process to know that this administration is garbage.

Why is it so hard for FAMU to have competence at a high level? Sham board, sham "interim" 24 month president. This is horrible and should not be stood for.

  16. Nothing the BOT does (or does not do) is surprising. What are we gonna do? Protest en masse like the students did in the Martin Lee Anderson case? I simply don't know what it is we can do. Discussing these issues and events are one thing that we can allow ourselves to do. Beyond that, it's the BOT's call, and we all know that, in effect, is simply CVB calling the shots. Period.

  17. Why not round up the Rattlers and woodshed with all parties concerned from Bush/Crist, to all FAMU constituents. Get the plans for alternatives and the buses reserved, I'm there!

  18. Do you really trust this BOT to select a high quality next President of FAMU? Remember, the Holmes-Corbin connection selected Gainous. Now this same board, being run by Corbin behind the scenes, will select a "permanent" president? Gov-elect Crist needs to re-shuffle the FAMU BOT with a quickness. Anyone with ties to James Corbin MUST GO! Challis Lowe...GOTTA GO!
