Dr. Smith's document is to cover the university and its academic units, while interim president Bryant will prepare a report covering the administration of the university.
Much of Dr. Smith's report could have easily been obtained from handing the new president a copy of one of Ledell Neyland's books on the history of FAMU.

Dr. James Ammons does not need this document which has been prepared by Dr. Walter Smith. Dr. Ammons knows the history of FAMU. He worked there much longer than Smith. This transition document is just another ill-fated mission by Castell and her inability to manage FAMU and its programs effectively. CVB is just fishing for anything that will divert the attention from her "weapons of mass destruction" in the war she launched against FAMU. I hope that Dr. Smith will realize that the war is over and all the original supporters of the CVB war have long removed themselves, folded-up their tents and returned to safer grounds. He needs to call Roosevelt Wilson. R. B. Holmes and Eddie Jackson and I am sure they will share with him some of their war stories. Goodbye Castell, Goodbye, we hope that in your days of retirement, you will pray for redemptive spirit and realize that you have caused many hard-working innocent people strife.

ReplyDeleteI commented in this very space on Sunday, regarding Walter Smith's so-called expertise in terms of preparing this "document." I stated that Smith would not be spending any gargantuan amount of time "preparing" any such document, that he had probably already completed the thing and would simply engage in academic appearances to satisfy the public that he was actually doing some serious work. We all know that this kind of tom-foolery isn't something new to Walter and Castell, that this is old hat, and each of them are simply blowing smoke up folks' arses. Walter has "spent" as much time creating this fake document as much as CVB has spent in asking him to "prepare" it. The entire deal is a complete sham, and Castell,

It simply never ceases to amaze me just how far Castell will go in an effort to continually decieve people. Simply unbelievable. Any middle school kid--with just a little bit of help from a parent--could have easily put this mess together in little time or nothing. For shame, Castell. For shame, Walter. We all wanted to hope that each of you was better than this, because hope springs eternal, but sometimes even hope is not enough.

ReplyDeleteNow when I heard that Dr. Smith was preparing transition document, I just knew for certain that Dr. Smith had some sort of competent staff (MBA's) or something helping to collect, analyze, and make since of this obviously complicated situation.
ReplyDeleteBut, you mean to tell me that a 60+ year old brother (not that I’m discriminating) alone can accomplish a task that any real transition consultancy would staff with at least 5 people and most of them 30 somethings and single.
We should expect and hope that we demand more. 10,000 is a good for a personal, 100hr consultant project. Hell SGA, from what I hear, paid Cornell West 20,000 to speak for a 1 hr. But for a project of this magnitude, one would need to employ a support staff.
It is like paying a builder to build a house and his ass show up with a screw drive and a pair of wire pliers, talking about "where you want me to put it?"
The amount is worth it if the consultant has done similar work for other institutions; the results are professional, useful, insightful, and revealing.
However, if this is Dr. Smith's first gig of this nature, this is just another hookup.
what, exactly is this "transition" document, and what, exactly, does it entail? Can someone please give me the 4-1-1 on this Walter Smith gig? (Because obviously, it's a gig.)
